Lizette was born and raised in Harlingen, Texas (a border-town with Mexico). She is a first-generation American. Her mother is an immigrant from El Salvador who obtained citizenship with the help of Cortez Law Group, PLLC in February 2021. Her father retired from Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2013. Her brother is a current Border Patrol agent. Lizette truly believes that immigration is in her blood!
Lizette attended the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas where she graduated with honors in 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a minor is Legal Studies.
She graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2015 where she earned a Juris Doctorate. While at Texas Tech, she participated in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic (ADR). While with the ADR Clinic, Lizette has been verified by the State of Texas as a mediator. She also worked with Texas Tech Student Legal Services and helped to implement immigration law into the department.
Since graduating law school, Lizette has worked primarily in immigration law but also has experience in family law, personal injury, wills and estates, and many other areas of law. Lizette has dedicated her career to helping immigrants in her community. Lizette has represented thousands of immigrants before immigration court and USCIS around the country and even the world!
In 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, Lizette opened up her own immigration law firm and has helped her community obtain legal status. (Click the photo above for an article from CNN about Lizette!)
In her free time, Lizette likes to spend time with her husband, Anthony, and her fur-baby, Oliver. She also enjoys traveling the world and can be found abroad while not in the office.
